Telomeres are repetitive DNA sequences (like TTAGGG) that cap the ends of chromosomes. They act like the plastic tips on shoelaces, preventing chromosomes from fraying or fusing. Every time a cell divides, telomeres shorten slightly. When they become too short, the cell stops dividing or dies.
Telomere testing analyzes a blood sample to measure the length of telomeres in white blood cells. The result provides an estimate of your biological age, which may differ from your chronological age.
